Metamodernism

About metamodernism | Notes on Metamodernism

Notes on Metamodernism was founded in May 2009 by Timotheus Vermeulen and Robin van den Akker. They were later joined by Nadine Fessler, Hila Schachar, Luke Turner and Alison Gibbons, and today, the site features contributions by over 30 writers from across the globe. The webzine is part of an ongoing research project documenting developments in aesthetics and culture that can no longer be explained in terms of the postmodern, but should be conceived of by another critical discourse; one that we have come to call metamodernism.

Here we post our thoughts on trends and tendencies in current affairs (ranging from global economics to biopolitics), network culture, contemporary architecture, design, fashion, art, music, literature, theatre, performance, photography, film and television. Our research has also spawned numerous academic articles, symposia and exhibitions, with two books due to be published in 2013.

Notes on Metamodernism aims to bring together scholars and critics from across the world and from a great variety of disciplines. Most of our contributors are academics, but we also publish the writing of critics, curators, artists and students. If you are interested in contributing, please contact us using our contact page. You can also get in touch via our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter at @metamodernism.
